The international level of electro-encephalography test recording and reporting was introduced in collaboration with a private clinic in Dhaka in April 1996 by Dr. Selina Husna Banu and her team, with a paper pen machine. Persistent transfer of technology started on the same occasion.
Our initial aim:
- To remove the inappropriate technique and insufficient reporting of the very sensitive test during the mid 90s.
- To ensure the optimum utilization of the equipment and appropriate electro-clinical correlation.
At the inception of our activity we had to deal with the fact that a lot of children with non-epileptic events had been on long-term antiepilepsy drug (AED) treatment based on the wrong reporting of the short time EEG records. We took steps to clarify these issues among the professionals through workshops, seminars, case presentations, and discussions.
We trained a good number of technicians, physicians, and engineers in collaboration with different organizations with the help of the Clinical Neurophysiology department of the Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) and ICH London.
In 1999, we received a used digital EEG machine donated by GOSH, ICH London. We established the first EEG laboratory with that machine at Dhaka Shishu Hospital. Technical collaboration was established with the Department of Biomedical Physics and Technology (BPT) of Dhaka University.
International biennial conferences were organized starting in 2015.
